The Chemical Brother “Wide Open” video

The Chemical Brothers Wide Open 4 SG Style Journal

The Chemical Brother “Wide Open” video showcases some inspiring creative and amazing technical wizardry.  The video is directed by the talented team of Dom&Nic, featuring the vocals of Beck and the dancing of Sonoya Mizuno.

The visual effect of slowly turning Sonoya Mizuno into a see through lattice version of herself as she dances around a warehouse is truly amazing. The end result is something to behold but the the technical skill in achieving it is even more incredible. The whole effect was done as one seamless four and half min shot of about 7000 frames. This provided a host of creative and technical challenges for the Mill’s effects team. They would need to create a full body scan of Sonoya and then turn her body parts into see through 3d lattice. They would also need  to paint out specific body parts to see through to the background. Additionally they would need a clean version of not only the whole background but the dancer so that when a lattice arm crossed over any part of Sonoya you could see through it to her too.

The whole execution creates an endless supply of challenges from tracking and matching to lighting, shadowing and on and on.  All I can say is WOW!
