Located in downtown Los Angeles, Redbird is built inside a 1933-historic architectural gem, the Vibiana Cathedral. The former rectory has become the location for the restaurant while the cathedral is being used as an event space all owned and operated by the Frasers and their partners.
A Redbird Chef Neal Fraser’s modern American cuisine is refined yet approachable and highlights the multi-cultural influences of his native city – Los Angeles. Fraser’s menu features seasonal small and large format plates ranging from snacks or “kickshaws” to entrees meant to be enjoyed by the whole table. An extensive cocktail menu features well-balanced, bespoke renditions of the classics.
Nearly five years in the making the restaurant is an open and airy space with a retractable ceiling on the patio courtyard. The painted ceilings mimic the cathedral interior space while other elements from the original structure pay homage to the existing architecture.
The name of the restaurant is a clever nod to the former cardinal’s offices, which were located upstairs.
Upon entering you will walk into the lounge / bar, which is appointed with comfortable mid-century style furniture. To your right is a 360 bar which wraps around from the lounge to the patio dining space behind. I’m sure you will find this space and food as inspiring as I did.
