Pleasure and Pain Exhibit

V&A-pleasure-and-pain exhibit 1

The Victoria and Albert Museum brings us “Pleasure and Pain” a fascinating look at footwear from around the world. On display are over 200 pairs of the most extreme shoes from the last 2000 years. This exhibition highlights the euphoria and obsession shoes can inspire and brings together exceptional footwear for men and women from key designers, famous wearers and collectors alongside the latest innovations and a dazzling range of historic shoes, many displayed for the first time.  The shoes range from a sandal decorated in pure gold leaf originating from ancient Egypt to the most elaborate designs by contemporary makers. The exhibit considers the cultural significance and transformative capacity of shoes and examines the latest developments in footwear technology creating the possibility of ever higher heels and dramatic shapes.
